Chapter 21. Trouble

Venus POV

“Number PP69, you have a visitor,” a guard told me as I wiped the dusty windows clean. Before I could ask him anything, he walked away. A visitor? Whom could it be? I had no family and, besides Dan’s family, no friends. Was it a trick? After encountering the bold guard in the library, I had no doubt they could pull a prank on me.

“Are we even allowed to have visitors?” April asked from the floor, scraping dried mud off the tiles.

“I guess so. Hasn’t Edna ever come to visit you?”

April stopped scraping and sat cross-legged, a posture that was somehow comfortable for her.

“Edna is not related to me by blood. We share a father, so she is actually my half-sister. She doesn’t like me that much, and she was not happy when I joined the family.”
