I could hear the music as I walked down the stairs, with my festive ball mask held in the crook of my arm. No one was in the palace, and I stopped by my throne room.

My crown sat on my throne—one I had not sat on in a while. The seat to its right belonged to my chosen Luna, my mother being the last woman to sit on it.

I picked up the slim gold band, feeling unworthy of the honor. Technically, I was not yet the Alpha King because I had no Luna, but my father had made sure I was crowned King before he passed on.
