The band’s performance wasn’t bad at all. I even found myself humming one of their songs with lyrics about a girl with purple hair and cherry-flavored lips. Throughout the concert, Mason held my hand tightly.
Gabriela suggested going to a new Chinese restaurant for some food. She was craving “wang tang.”
“Oh, actually, I was hoping to have some alone time with Anna,” Mason said.
My stomach churned at the thought.
“She’s not going anywhere without me,” Colton objected. “I’ve been entrusted with taking care of her today.”
Gabriela and I both shouted, “Colton!”
“It’s true. Cecile, Anna’s mother, asked me to keep an eye on her. I’m a man of my word,” Colton explained.
I saw Mason tense up and slowly clench his fists. What was I going to do?
“Colton, stop meddling. Anna is old enough to take care of herself,” my cousin scolded him.
