Rhia felt her anger dissipate into intense sadness and regret, and she tore her eyes away from her friend and sat up again. She had intentionally skipped the part where she was supposed to tell Layla that she had died in the past, “You were home. I was at my lab when they took me away,” She lied, her chest tightening.

Layla exhaled, “I’m still not done processing all this. It’s just like telling a human that mythical creatures exist. It’s... exciting but it’s terrifying at the same time and of course, hard to believe,”
