Chapter 22
After classes, I immediately rushed to work, sparing little or no extra time for little chit-chats with my coursemates. I pushed the door open and was welcomed by the cold air as I lowered my gaze and made my way forward to change my outfit.
“Leila.” His authoritative voice carried through the room, calling out to me, and jerked my head towards his direction. He was standing at the end of the room, where the last glass structure containing pastries was laid.
“Yes sir,” I halted in my tracks in anticipation of whatever he was going to say. He wasn’t even supposed to be present at the office today. He only visited during Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The rest of the days, the manager - Mr Clark - supervised our efficiency. Mr Clark wasn’t excellent at that job because he was very lazy and it favoured people like us.
