“Bye Akela, have a great night.” I said, walking past the girl who was still hanging around (even though we had closed) to complete a movie that she was engrossed in.
She nodded, “Bye, take care Mami,” she said without take her eyes off the screen. Mami was the new nickname she gave to me. She started calling me that after I had advised her on an issue that was bothering her, one day at work. We’ve had lengthy, deep conversations and I was beginning to see her like my younger sister and I was determined to protect her from making the mistakes I had made when I was much younger.
I walked out the entrance door, and it closed behind me. I had just closed from work.
