Chapter 24
I stared at him and I saw how he fixed his eyes on the road intently as he drove. Without second thoughts, I feigned cough, the sound of it making him jerk his head towards my direction.
His hands still on the steering wheel, he turned to face me, “Are you okay,” He questioned.
“Yeah, I guess.” I muttered, withdrawing my hand from my mouth’s region.
“Should we stop by to get you water?” He asked pointing over to the few stores along the road, concern glazing over his features.
“No, I am okay.” I gave a weak smile.
Soon, his phone started ringing. “Arghh.” He groaned, retrieving it from his pocket. When he saw the caller ID, he hissed and tossed it on his laps. I noticed the way his mood dampened and I asked about who had called him earlier on.
“That’s Mitchell.”
“Oh.”
“Or you don’t remember her?”
“I do.” He sensed how uncomfortable I was with the topic and he changed the conversation. I wondered for how long we would stop acting
