Chapter 23. Cursed

"Dave, I know...just keep someone posted at the clinic. She should be fine, I'm just glad we found out about this earlier before anything happens," I told him in confidence, while inside I noted to myself to pick her up earlier today and explain to Flo about my conversation with Dave. She needed to understand the urgency of the situation, she needed to be more careful of her surroundings.

But that day I was buried with work, and I wasn't able to get out of my office earlier. Until I received that dreaded phone call from Gabby, I knew instantly that something had happened to Florence. I was parking my car at the clinic's parking lot when she told me that Florence was gone, nowhere to be seen. I felt my body go cold, I couldn't think and move, I felt like I was torn, and my heart shattered to pieces. This was greater than what I've ever experienced. I couldn't even curse at my destiny.

"Walt?" Gabby called my name again from the other line.
