Chapter 4

"Is that good?"

Ziad couldn’t help but ask when he saw the elf eating, apparently very happy. It was almost as if he had never experienced anything like it.

Which also made him wonder, what did they eat in protected forests?

Aart was a little embarrassed by the question, but he still nodded in the affirmative. That era is good.

It was something called “soup”, but not the medicinal soups he was used to. But yes one made with a variety of vegetables, vegetables, and a little shredded meat. It was delicious!

Even more so after dipping a toasted bread, the flavor seemed to intensify and the bread became soft. Which made it easier to chew and swallow.

“ no need to be shy. I just thought the way you were eating was cute “ Ziad laughed when he saw a slight shade of pink dye the cheeks of the person in front of him “So I was curious, you don’t have to stop eating because of me.”

The half-elf nodded a little, then went back to eating. But in a much more restrained way. Which made Ziad sigh, and beat himself up internally. Him and his big mouth!

Looking at the small table cluttered with things, Ziad got up and walked towards her. He wanted to dispel the little half-elf’s embarrassment. So he decided to show him the things bought for him in advance.

Taking the most important things, he placed them on the bed, in a way that wouldn’t interfere with eating.

Then he happily began to unpack the packages.

“look at this” he held a kind of white tunic in front of him “I think it will look good on you, but if you don’t like it I also bought many varieties of clothes. Choose the one you find is best. I also bought some ornaments. I don’t know if you’ll like them, but I think they look good on you.”

To be honest, Ziad bought almost every silver accessory he could find. He thought they would match the silver hair the half-elf had. Also, more than half had stones, or some green accents, however, he didn’t imagine his eyes would be that exact color.

A happy coincidence!

“ah!” Snapping his fingers, he seems to remember something important. So when he couldn’t find it among the things on the bed he marched over to the small table again. Fortunately, after a while, he finally found him “This is for you” Holding out the package, Ziad patiently waited until the little half-elf reached out his hands, and took the package.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, he watched eagle eyes as the other slowly opened the package. Gradually reveal a pad of paper, five or six inches wide and long. That was accompanied by a long, exquisite-looking “wand”.

What was the name again? Pen?

Well, he didn’t remember. However, it was a new product and it was enjoying great success among the nobles. Precisely because they don’t need to use a feather or ink to write. So, even though it was a little expensive, it was practical and he didn’t hesitate to buy it.

He had bought five. If one didn’t work anymore, there was another available. Paper pads were easier to find, but he didn’t know if there were items like pens in smaller cities. So a “small stock” would not be frowned upon.

“Do you know how to write?” Ziad asked to be sure, but there was no time for the other to answer “I thought it was more convenient for you to communicate through words. This notepad is not very big, so it will be easier to transport. And this little thing… pen! This pen is also very useful, it’s better than carrying inks and quills around. You can just put it in your bag, and take it out when you feel like it... what was it? Why are you crying?”

Ziad despaired when he saw the small drops of water start to come out of those greenish orbs.

“you…” hesitating a little, he subtly approached “… didn’t you like it? We can buy another one, no need to be upset.”

Art shook his head no, he showed that he wasn’t upset by the gift... it’s just... no one has ever done something like that for him...

Even if it’s for a horrible reason having to win something like that to be able to communicate. He was still a little moved.

Rubbing his eyes, he tried to push away the tears. Aart wanted to write as quickly as possible on his pad of paper and thank him for the help. However, his hands were held, preventing him from continuing to rub his eyes.

“don’t rub them, you’ll hurt them” your savior scolded while using one of his hands to hold your two hands together. With his other free hand, he took out a small piece of cloth and gently wiped away her tears. When he finished, he raised na eyebrow as if to say, ‘See? It was not so hard!’.

Aart snorted, leaving that matter aside. He anxiously pulled out his pad, and after receiving instructions from his rescuer on how to use the “pen”, he hesitated a bit. What should he write? And would the other be able to understand Old Elvish?

Despite knowing the common language, that wouldn’t be useful at that moment. And the only language he knew how to write was that. But as it was na elf thing, very few people should know how to understand them.

“I know ancient Elvish” Ziad assured me when he saw the other’s hesitation “I don’t know much, but I can recognize most of the words.”

Feeling relieved, Aart writes a simple sentence.

‘ my name is Aart. What is yours?’

“Aart” Ziad murmured before smiling “it’s a good name. I’m sorry I didn’t introduce myself sooner, my name is Ziad. Nice to meet you.”

Nodding, Aart returns the gesture.

‘equally’

Hesitating for a few seconds, he decided to write down on paper the words he wanted to say in person.

‘ thanks’

Ziad was silent for a few moments, as he raised his hand and gently stroked the silver hair of the person in front of him.

“you don’t need to thank me” he assured, me before clearing his throat and changing the subject “Now… how do you feel? Any pain, discomfort, dizziness, or something like that?”

‘I am fine. Without any pain.’

Aart raised his eyes and stared at him as if trying to mentally convey that he was perfectly fine.

“that’s good...” getting up, Ziad placed his hands on his hips, and narrowed his eyes “... then so I’m ready to work.”

Holding tightly to his sheet, Aart lifted it a little. Looking at the other person with wary eyes.

“Why that face? We still have work to do!” seeing the person’s increasingly confused look, he decided to explain in detail “There’s a demon on the loose, causing chaos, etc., and so on. Our job is to chase him down and kill him before other people get hurt.”

‘but why do I need to go along?’

“Hmm…. That’s a complicated thing to answer” Pretending to think a little, Ziad smiled mischievously before giving a little wink “But in short, I found you so now you’re mine.”

‘I’m not na object!’

“I never said it was” shrugging, he didn’t care about the angry face that Aart was making “but I promised that I would take care of you, and protect you. How can I do this if you’re not by my side?”

‘I didn’t ask for your protection!’

“I know. It was something I decided on my own, but...” approaching the other menacingly, he spoke with a serious tone that gave no room for refusal “... if you don’t come with me... I will tie him up and carry him like a sack of potatoes. Was I clear?”

Puffing his cheeks in na irritated manner, Aart turned his face away and refused to look at him again.

Of course, Ziad wouldn’t force him, it was better to let his anger dissipate a little. He didn’t want to be harsh, but he needed the other to come with him.

After all, what would be the fate of a voiceless half-elf who had no one to protect him in this world?

Ziad didn’t even want to think about it, in Aart’s current situation, the only way he could survive would be to sell his body.

Well, he wouldn’t lie if he said he never passed by brothels. But the lifeless look of the people who forced themselves to do this to survive disgusted him and he avoided these types of places at any cost.

And despite the greenish eyes being covered by a shadow of pain and suffering. They still glowed vividly.

And if it were up to him, that flame would never go out.
