Chapter 11
Dinner was a light spread, but it was filling, as much as Xavier would not admit out loud. Jessica was actually a very good cook.
The meals blended well, and the taste was so exquisite that he almost complimented her, but it was far from his nature.
The silence at the table was deafening. Jessica tried to start a conversation about two times, but he killed it off with his one-word answers, so she just had to give up.
“Thank you for the meal,” Jessica said, wiping her mouth with the napkin.
She was not a heavy eater, but she ate when necessary. Having this meal be the first with him would remain with her forever because she was a sentimental person.
