Chapter 24. Subdued
The female fleet member slowly lowered the Nexus S. Her face was distorted with sadness. Crashing the Sulaco meant she would die, too.
“What’s the matter?” Jimmy sneered. He noticed the look on her face. It wasn’t a bright one. “Talk to us,” Jimmy repeated, poking her to get her attention. She seemed carried away.
She flinched. Her eyes rolled to Jimmy; she opened her mouth and spoke in a quivering voice, “The General has instructed me to crash the Sulaco.”
Becky and Jimmy glanced at each other. They weren’t surprised, especially Jimmy, who perceived that the General would never keep his own end of the deal. In the past, he had seen rogue generals using their men to carry out illegal activities, only to be killed by the same person who had ordered them to do their bidding.
“We need to reach out to Alicia,” he said, moving closer to the desk. He picked up the Nexus S. Switching his gaze back to the female fleet member, he asked, “What digits should I dial?”
