I started coughing uncontrollably immediately after those words left his mouth. My eyes were red now, and Damon rushed over to my side with a cup of water, which I collected and chugged down. 

The intensity of the cough made my eyes a bit teary. My food almost went down the wrong pipe, but thankfully it didn’t. What was Damon saying? What did he mean by I am his second chance mate?

“Why are you messing with me? Stop it, please; you just made me choke on my food with your silly joke.” I told him and proceeded to drink more water.

He continued staring at me till I was done drinking the water before saying.

“I’m not joking, Roxanne; if anything, I’m very serious.” 

I looked at him and searched his eyes to see if I could catch any g
