Chapter 24
Entering the house, she took off her boots, and her father, noticing her arrival, excitedly approached. Despite his attempt to control his expression, the joyful look on his face made Kattie somewhat suspicious. He hurriedly came up to Kattie and said:
“Going out on a night like this was very dangerous. Why not wait until tomorrow to come?”
Even though his words sounded concerned, Kattie knew that he primarily wanted the painting from her as soon as possible, not caring much about the well-being of his daughter.
Without responding, she quietly entered the house and sat down on the sofa. The housekeeper, seeing this, promptly poured her a warm tea to help raise her body temperature. The aroma of the tea wafted through the air, soothing the coldness that Kattie had brought into the room. She took a sip, and the warm liquid flowed into her, making her close her eyes in relaxation.
