Chapter 75

Mia POV

Kate looked out the window staring at nothing and avoiding my eyes. I could see her thinking of an excuse to escape the conversation.

“I need to get something at the grocery store”

“Not a chance. Not until you tell me why you lied to that lady at the boutique”

Kate sighed in defeat.

“Eleanor and I attended the same college but we weren’t exactly close. She wasn’t so great academically and I received all the recognition. She could not stand it. She would make snide comments during my presentations just to make fun of me. I didn’t care”

“Okay, what does that have to do with anything? You weren’t best friends, why were you so nervous?”

“Here’s the thing, Lukas visited me once in college and I found out Eleanor had a major crush on him. She talked about him all the time”

“Eleanor liked Lukas?”

“Yes, and I….. I kind of introduced them” her voice trailed off into a whisper.

“You did what?”
