All my life, I had always been told what to do. How to behave. Never to act out.

First it was my father. A month after my mother ‘died’, Luna Lilian arrived and my father had told me to accept her.

“Call her mother” he had said.

Then Luna Lilian’s tyranny began, then her daughter joined in. They never failed to remind me of my place.

I had told myself everything would be over one day when I got married to my fated mate. But it was far from it.

“You’re quitting”

His words echoed in my mind seconds after he said it.

“Excuse me?” I whispered. “I didn’t decide that”

“I did. You can’t work there anymore”

“You don’t control my life. I can do whatever the hell I want”

He stepped closer. “No you can’t. There are guards at every corner of this house. You can’t leave until I say otherwise”
