Mia POV

I maneuvered my way through the sea of bodies at the club.

My plan to get out of the house had worked out just fine. All it took was a call to Kate, telling her that Lukas had refused to let me out. As I expected, she was furious and asked to see Lukas for a chat. The moment Lukas left, I slipped out.

I finally found Nathan at the bar. His back bent over and his eyes half closed.

I sat beside him.

“I didn’t think you would come”

“Are you okay? I came as soon as I saw your message. I’m so sorry about your restaurant”

“You found out”

“It was all over the news”

He didn’t react, instead he lifted his glass and took a gulp.

“You are a good man. Who would want to hurt you?”

He laughed bitterly. “Someone who saw me as a threat”

I blinked, thinking of Lukas. I felt incredibly racked with guilt.

“Is there anything I can do to help?”

He shook his head. “Just being here is enough”

I pressed
