Chapter 7. Pretense and Attraction

Kristain walked into the dining room, surprised to see additions to his family. Oh! He kicked himself mentally. He had totally forgotten that Yasmin had told him that Mr. Nazir, their father’s friend, would be visiting that day with his daughter. He shrugged as he moved closer to the table. It wasn’t too late to greet them. He had only been gone for the day, and not like he had been gone for too long.

He stilled as the scent he had smelled earlier wafted to his nostrils. He looked at the girl seated beside Mr. Nazir, certain the scent was coming from her. Apart from the scent, he could also feel a strange, unsettling feeling in his belly. He looked away from her, not wanting to freak her out with his stares, and made his way to his chair, which was, to his annoyance, opposite where she was seated. He grunted as he sat himself down, wondering why he felt unsettled by her presence.
