Chapter 16

Dana’s POV

After Keenan had left in search of a healer for Raya, I stayed by her side with a wet cloth, mopping her head because that was what she did for me when I was sick. I had done this for what seemed to me like hours, but her body remained cold, and I could feel no pulse.

I continued regardless, and then a knock on the door interrupted me. I should have asked who it was, but I believed that only Keenan could be knocking. I was ecstatic because his coming would mean that he had found a healer, and Raya would be alright.

When I opened the door, a young woman about Raya’s age stood before me with a basket of apples. I looked behind her and there was no Keenan.

“Who are you looking for?” I asked, wondering what this person could be doing in the middle of nowhere.

“Is Raya in?” she asked in a low voice.
