Chapter 7. The Journey

Adrianna’s POV

The cart started moving, and every bump in the road made my body ache because I was still bruised and sore from being dragged to the execution grounds and thrown around.

The beast was lying next to me. I could hear its breathing getting slower and more shallow with each passing minute, and honestly, I was starting to think it might die right here next to me.

Part of me thought I should be happy about that because this thing belonged to the pack that my people had destroyed, and technically, we were enemies, but another part of me felt sick at the thought of watching it die.

Maybe it was because it had saved my life, or maybe it was something else I didn’t understand yet, but either way, I couldn’t make myself feel good about its suffering.

I looked down at the arrows and spears sticking out of its back. I could see blood still dripping from the wounds and soaking into its dark fur.
