Chapter 9

Nate’s POV

The Patrols had called in the Rogue presence in the area not long after I had retired for the evening.

The news had sent Brutus into a frenzy and it had worried me as well. I redressed as quick as I was able and linked my Beta to accompany me down to the lake to ensure our mate was safe.

Initially, we weren’t too worried, her cave was set back into a mountain and pretty difficult to access for the average rogue.

All previous reports suggested they were based elsewhere, so in theory, caves shouldn’t interest them, as they did not need to be looking for alternative places to base their operations.

As we came to the dirt trail, though, we both noticed the plants had been heavily trampled on either side of the usual path. I shared a look with my Beta and we broke into a run.

The rotting scent that seemed to be familiar to the rogues we had encountered here previously assaulted our senses as we got closer to the lake and Brutus howled
