Chapter 21
Ember’s POV
Nate and Josh were already waiting for us at the bottom of the ornately carved staircase as we began our descent.
My wolf was still furious and wouldn’t listen to my reasoning. She felt betrayed and let down by Brutus.
In her mind, she had spent countless years protecting me from hurt, taking the pain and suffering so that I wouldn’t have to and finally, when she thought she could rely on her mate to protect us, another she-wolf had appeared and behaved in a manner that suggested they were overly familiar.
She understood that our human side was not infallible, but she expected Brutus to have steered Nate to make the right decisions. Nadia was not what she regarded as a good decision.
Nate smiled nervously as he offered his hand. I hesitated momentarily before I took it.
