She didn't recognize the place and couldn't relate it to her prior research before the trip. The space was narrow, with the hatch they had fallen through on one side and a completely sealed door on the other. Elizabeth looked up; there was no light coming in from anywhere, so this room was below the temple.
Seeing no way out, she focused her attention on the huge door. It was made of polished stone with hieroglyphics carved into it, although she couldn't read them from this distance. Elizabeth took a faltering step, closely followed by Julian and Miriham. When she stood in front of the door, she let her hand fall on its lock.
It was a strange shape; she had never seen anything like it and recognized some figures, such as the god Aten and the goddess Isis. She slid her hand over the intricate drawings; strangely, the place where the key should be inserted was identical to the Ankh necklace.
