Chapter 58
I’m back in Marcus’s Porsche, eyes closed, humming the latest from Dominion Gate, a Finnish heavy metal band whose concert Marcus wants to see when they tour in a couple of weeks. They’re not bad—especially when the volume is so loud you’re forced to move because the music takes over your body completely.
I can’t hear my phone ring—how could I?—and it’s a miracle I feel it vibrate, considering how the bass shakes the car. But since I took it out to look up the band on Wikipedia and left it on my lap, I notice my palm vibrating more than the rest of me and realize someone’s calling.
I glance at the screen. Seeing it’s Cass, I motion for Marcus to turn the music down.
He does—punctuating it with a wide smile and a muttered “wimp.”
I make a face and hit speaker.
“The grey hair!” she crows, skipping hello entirely.
“I’m guessing that means you got my message?”
I sent one before leaving the office about Marcus’s glorious reinstatement.
