Chapter 38. Turning of the Tide
ASHLENE
I woke up from a short nap feeling refreshed and energized. There was nothing compared to the sound of waves crashing and the salty air.
When I got up, there was welcoming food on the table with a note: “Enjoy your stay with us, ma’am.” Right next to it was the pamphlet for the meeting I had tossed on the bed. I didn’t know how it got there.
I picked up the pamphlet and checked what time the welcome dinner would be. 6 in the evening. I looked at my wristwatch, and it was 4:18. I still had ample time to prepare for the formal dinner: the makeup preparation, the hair, the dress, and taking pictures. However, the last one would be hard since I had no one to assist me with it. I guessed I’d ask for help from one of the resort staff or whoever was willing to lend a hand.
Anyway, the food on the table was an egg pie and a banana shortcake. It looked appealing. There was also a slice of brownie wrapped in clear cellophane. The glass of pineapple juice was on
