Chapter 54. Objective of the Weekend

Despite the high tide, the waves were calm and steady. They were only lying down on each of the benches at the side of the ocean, looking like two mini boats floating in the sea.
“This is relaxing… I’ll always choose something like this over a busy day in the city,” Ashlene said, her eyes closed.
I smiled. With this scene on my right, I could rest, and still, my heart would be restless. The mild sunlight bathed her skin with the right amount of glow. If I looked closely, it was like her skin was made of molten diamonds. They sparked and glittered.
“I agree. I don’t remember the last time we went to somewhere like this. Or even just to a beach.”
My smile disappeared. There’s no lie there, anyway. I admit that. Back when we were in the country, we only had limited means. We cannot even afford to have a weekend getaway. The cost of such would be our salary for half a month. We chose to compromise.
