Chapter 55. The Worse Half

The teary eyes didn’t go away. They were still in her eyes when I said we should get back to the room and take a rest.
Or, to be honest, I’m not ready to have the worst half of the conversation just yet.
“No…” Ashlene muttered.
“What?”
When I finally stood up, I offered her a hand. She only looked at it.
“Let’s stay here a little longer.”
What for? I wanted to ask. But chose not to.
“Okay, then.”
I sat back down. Slowly, the tide has turned. Our feet that were submerged in seawater a while ago has now been submerged in wet sand. As the water receded, the emotions rose to my face where I could feel it in every movement. Surely, the worst is yet to come. If I don’t leave the sea benches now, I won’t be able to avoid it.
