Chapter 69. They’re not Bad People

“Don’t answer or open your phone yet,” I said, knowing that the Ridleys would be all over her messages and phone logs.
“I don’t want to,” she said, and we walked past the counter.
The teenager from earlier has now put down her phone and is punching the computer in front of her to record the woman’s book order. She gave us a glance and a raised eyebrow. Perhaps she saw us from the surveillance camera or something. Two persons, one in a black pullover and the other in an elegant dress, having a dramatic crying session inside a bookstore. Like two characters on a fictional romance book.
Outside, a cab was waiting right at the bookstore’s front. The driver honked and the red sign ‘For Hire’ lighted up. I nodded and then opened the door to the backseat.
