Chapter 17. Courage
I heard voices speaking loudly, but it must have been due to my imagination. I seemed lost in memories more often than I focused on the present. It did not seem to do me a lot of good.
“You over there!”
“Hello?”
“I asked you a question. Are you ignoring me?” The voice of Mr Essien broke through my train of thought. “You seem to have better things on your mind during my class.” I snapped alert and blinked at the lecturer who now stood before me. He tapped a board marker against his palm impatiently. I heard a quiet giggle from behind me. When I glanced behind me, I found the chubby, baby-faced girl making doe eyes at Mr Essien. The sight made me want to puke.
“Do you have anything to say for yourself?” He asked as he waited expectantly. I quickly thought of what to say as my eyes drifted around the room. I locked gazes with Kolade. He looked at me expectantly with narrowed eyes as if he wanted to hear what I would say. I looked back at
