Lucas’s POV

My eyelids were heavy, like they had been stitched shut. I forced them open anyway and I was greeted by a blinding light that made me close my eyes back.

I slowly opened them again to see the white ceiling above me. The soft beeping of the machine rang in my ear and the sterile scent in the air made me realise that I was in a hospital.

“Lucas?” I heard a familiar voice called.

My vision slowly sharpened, and faces came into focus. My mother, my uncle and Micheal were standing near the foot of the bed.

They looked relieved and happy.

“Thank God,” my mother breathed, gripping my hand. “You’re awake.”
