NIGHTBOURNE PACK, SUN CITY, EUROPE

By the time I stepped out of the hospital that evening, the sky had already turned a soft shade of violet. The European air was cooler than Moon City’s, I liked that about this place.

I adjusted the strap of my bag on my shoulder and began walking toward the bus stop when a sleek black car slowly pulled up in front of me.

I didn’t need to look twice to know who it was.

The window slid down smoothly, and Dr. Leonard Smith leaned slightly toward me, a polite smile curving his lips.

“Long shift, Dr. Pretakis?”

I forced a small smile. “You could say that.”
