The airport buzzed with voices, rolling suitcases, and final goodbyes, but somehow, everything felt muted to me as if I were moving through the moment in a fog.
Liana stood a few steps away as she talked to her parents animatedly, promising to call as soon as we landed and arguing lightly with her mother about whether Europe would be too cold for her. Watching her made me smile. She was excited and hopeful.
