Chapter 24
She looked at him and shook her head. He was too fastidious and timely, and there never seemed to be a time in his life that was not run by some schedule or timetable. It made her feel pity for him. She always felt pity for people whose lives were to follow a pattern and who did not have a life outside the timetables in their lives. She knew there was nothing he could ever do impromptu. She believed the best moments of one’s life were ones he did not plan or fantasize about—ones he did not make so many plans for.
“I see your life is run by a schedule and timetable that you are committed to. Tell me,” she said as she walked closer to him and they began to walk again, “do you ever do anything for fun except for what you have in your timetables? Do you ever wake up and do something else that is not even a part of your schedule?” she asked.
Her mind told her he was not going to reply, and she decided to see if he would. So far, he had not shown any interest in whatever was
