The moment we arrived at the park, I felt a fresh breeze of aliveness wash over me. It was like my inner child woke up all at once. I couldn’t stop smiling—my eyes wandered over the entire place, then drifted to Leo as he paid the gate fee.
I watched him while he waited for our entrance permit. When he turned and caught me staring, his deep green eyes locked onto me, squinting a little as if to ask silently, “You okay?”
I blushed, looked down, and nodded.
When I peeked up again, he was still smiling at me—until the woman at the counter called for his attention.
I sighed softly.
He always makes me feel like I’m… you know… someone worth protecting. Like I’m allowed to be silly and childish because he’s right beside me. Something I never felt growing up without a father figure.
When he walked back toward me, he was holding a huge cone of ice cream.
“They give free ice cream for couples,” he said. “Thanks for being my girlfriend.
