I dropped the rifle slowly and let out the deepest exhale of my life. When I turned, Leo was just walking back toward me, a small paper bag of snacks in his hand.
I didn’t even know when he’d stepped out to get them.
He paused when he realized I was still battling with the game like a stubborn gladiator refusing to accept defeat.
By the time he reached me, I let the rifle hang loosely at my side, my spirit already in shambles.
I turned toward him like a defeated warrior returning from battle and looked up at him with a pout.

“Yes?” he answered softly, already fighting a smile as he set the snacks aside.
I stepped closer, gripping his sleeve gently.
“Please help me.”
He brushed my cheek with his thumb. “You sure?”
“Yes. I surrender. Destroy the targets. Do it for your Queen. I’m counting on you.”
