Chapter 57
At that moment, Jacques poked his head in the door.
“Ready for dinner?” he asked.
“I need to dress,” Pierre said as he stood.
“Me, too,” Henri said as he exited the carriage. “See you in the dining car in twenty minutes.”
Pierre nodded then, when he had privacy, dressed up for their evening meal.
As he changed, he checked his reflection in the looking glass on the wall, fixed his hair, and then donned a formal jacket. He applied one of the colognes he’d bought in Egypt and remembered their trip there. As an afterthought, he removed his broken locket from his pocket and glanced at the portrait of Antoine. It was slightly scuffed from where a piece of broken glass had scratched it when it fell on the floor. Pierre stroked the paper fondly, then replaced the necklace inside his pocket.
