Emily’s voice sounded distant and slightly muffled through the phone. She responded, “Hey, Dad, I just wanted to let you know that I’m on my way to the church to deliver the painting to Father John. He requested it urgently, and I couldn’t say no.”
A sense of apprehension washed over Tom as he contemplated the idea of his daughter wandering alone to the church after the recent event. Being a protective father, he couldn’t help but worry.
“Em, I appreciate your dedication, but please be careful,” he urged. “Make sure you stay in well-lit areas, and don’t talk to strangers. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
Silence lingered in the air before Emily responded, her voice imbued with a mix of determination and understanding, “Dad, I promise to be cautious. Besides, the church is just a few blocks away, and it’s broad daylight. I’ll be fine.”
