“That woman is your mother, Ethan. I am a mother too, and I can’t imagine what she is going th—”

“And whose fucking fault is that?” Ethan booms, veins popping on his forehead as he clenches his fists in anger. “You wouldn’t leave Carlos and Lucas one day! She is the reason I don’t believe in love.”

“No, Ethan. She isn’t the reason. Love is more than just wanting to be with someone. It’s doing anything to protect those you love, even if it means hurting yourself in the process. Even if it means them hating you.” I look away from him, not trusting my emotions. “That’s why I can’t accept… I am sorry.”
