Avery’s POV

Ethan reached back into his pocket and pointed a gun at Marcella. I felt my breathing stop for a second.

“Ethan! She is pregnant, for goodness sake! What are you doing?!” I yelled, trying to process the scene in front of me.

“What exactly is your plan?” Ethan roared, ignoring me and still pointing the gun at a visibly frightened Marcella.

Without thinking, I rushed in front of Marcella and spread my arms in front of her. “Are you insane? She only came to ask for help!”

“Avery, move.” Ethan warned, his eyes serious.

I shook my head in disagreement. “No way! Why are you trying to hur—”

“My baby!” Marcella gasped, and I turned just in time to catch her from falling. “My stomach hurts, my baby…” she whispered with her face scrunched up in pain as a lone tear fell from her eye.
