Chapter 66. What If I Stopped Running?
2014
Amelia’s POV
Adrian’s eyes widened slightly.
He didn’t move right away.
Instead, he straightened up and stepped closer. Then, slowly, deliberately, he closed the small distance between us completely.
And my heart, God, my heart was pounding so hard I was sure he could hear it.
He didn’t just lean in.
He knelt.
Right in front of me.
The light from inside the room cast soft shadows over his face, making his features look even sharper. His hands rested lightly on his thighs, and his gaze stayed locked on mine, searching, questioning.
“…Is that a good idea?” he murmured.
I swallowed, my breath unsteady. “I don’t know.”
And then I added, “I just…don’t wanna think about tonight.”
Adrian didn’t say anything.
But something shifted.
The air between us seemed to thicken, the silence stretching too long, the way his gaze moved to my lips for the briefest second before he looked back up.
