We waited an hour for the Alpha King to arrive, and he looks clearly unhappy after the long run. He shifts back, his assistants rushing to keep up with him and provide his clothing. His dark hair frames a face of fury as he approaches us.

Lyra and I rise. I’d seen Alpha King Trenor before, but from a distance while my father dealt with Council business. He was not a fan of a united front at the time, and he made no secret of it. His opinions reflected the rumored values of his people: proud, independent, solitary.

I wonder if anything has changed with him.
