Chapter 59. Our Little Secret

Briella was in her room when she received an unexpected call from someone she didn’t expect to hear from—her Daddy. How many years has it been since he last thought of checking up on her? Perhaps he’s going to inquire about the recent news of her marriage, that’s the only reason she could think of why he would call her.

She took a deep breath before deciding to answer; she couldn’t always avoid him anyway.

“Hello?” she said.

She got no response from the other end, but she knew her Daddy was there. She chuckled and spoke again. “If you have nothing to say, I’ll hang up and I have—”

“Where are you?” he interrupted her.

She tilted her head and smiled bitterly. After all this time without talking, is that all she would hear from her father?

“Why? Does it matter where I am?” she asked in amazement.

“Briella, I...” he sighed deeply, sarcasm evident in her voice, so he didn’t continue.

“If you’re curious about me, I’m fine. I’m alrea
