Chapter 40. Highly Suspicious

Keira stood nervously near the emergency room, occasionally peeking inside, but Ben was still nowhere to be seen. She fiddled with her fingers, wondering why he was overreacting like that when Julia looked fine, except for her knee, which she said was sore. After almost an hour of waiting, Ben finally appeared.

“You’re still here?” he asked, surprised. Keira frowned, “What do you mean? Should I be somewhere else?” she asked, a little offended.

Ben sighed, “No, I mean, I thought you left because you were tired of waiting,” he said without looking at her. She was silent momentarily, searching for the right words to melt the tension between them.

“Um, how was Julia? Were there any serious injuries?”

“Not really, just a slight dislocation in her knee. It will take a few weeks to heal,” said Ben, still not looking at her, which made her even more confused.

She nodded slowly, “How about our pre-wedding photo? Do you want to postpone it?” she was ready if i
