Chapter 9

"Hey," a familiar female voice greeted me as I was about to leave the school. I turned around to see Paige smiling at me.

"Hey," I responded, narrowing my eyes at her. I wondered why she was smiling so sweetly at me and figured that a request was underway.

"So, I wanted to invite you to an all night book club meeting tomorrow. It's organized by the Literary Club, and there'll be food and games," she said like she was making an irresistible sales offer.

I rolled my eyes mentally. Reading has never been my thing. I was already having a hard time learning subjects I wasn't interested in learning.

"I don't know..." I trailed off, trying to find the right words to decline her invitation in a polite manner.

"Come on, it'll be fun."

"Don't try to coax me into coming to your book club meeting, remember you were standoffish when I asked you to join me and my friends to go cycling." I folded my arms and raised a brow at her amusedly, expecting her to leave
