Chapter 26. A Sweet Gift
As the car sped through the roads from Portland Downtown Heliport, leading them to Willamette Valley, Brooklyn struggled to stay awake. With her stomach grumbling for food, it was an arduous task.
“We’ll be there in an hour. Do you want to stop for dinner?” asked Nikolas at last. Brooklyn slowly shook her head, tired of his silence. How could a person not have any wish to talk was beyond her?
“Here, have this.” Nikolas took out a box of chocolate truffles from his laptop bag for her to munch on. He had bought it for her earlier, but after the phone call from the police leading to a sudden change of plans, he had completely forgotten about it. Brooklyn’s eyes sparkled with delight as she took it from his hands. She had never felt so happy in her entire nineteen years of life!
“For me?” she squealed with excitement, making Nikolas smile as well, seeing her reaction of pure delight, but Brooklyn didn’t notice in her ecstasy. She was so overwhelmed with the little gift
