Chapter 17
Ethel stopped laughing and tugged at her hair. “It’s actually not funny; I might have gotten myself into a horrid mess.”
Jaineé wondered if she should stretch out her hand to comfort Ethel. She decided against it. She was a nice stranger, but a stranger nonetheless. What if she was an anti-physical touch person? She didn’t want to break any of her unspoken rules, especially after how helpful she had been with the dog and all. She decided to speak instead. “What happened?”
Ethel opened her mouth and told the story, leaving out any names, just in case Jaineé somehow knew any of her friends. It was unlikely, but still.
“So this your friend, yeah, the girl one, likes the guy one, who obviously likes her back, has liked her for a long time actually, but she doesn’t want anything to do with him romantically? My guess is that she’s fine with the way things are and doesn’t want to ruin their friendship dynamic.” Jaineé summarized sagely after listening to Ethel.
