Hazel's POV
"Are you okay, Hazel?"
Lunch was over, and I had again insisted on taking the plates to the kitchen for washing. Mama Mia had followed me when she noticed my countenance.
"Yes, Mama Mia." I replied, but without enthusiasm or any indication that I was anywhere near fine.
"Are you sure?"
"Very."
"But you don’t look like it."
She scrutinised me with a doubtful stare of her own, which I pretended not to see, and scrubbed the dish I was holding harder.
"I’m fine, Mama Mia."
"You have to tell her, Hazel."
"Why? Why should I?"
"You won’t believe me. You don’t think I have the right to make you feel better. Maybe opening up to her might make you feel better."
