The moment the words came out of my mouth, I regretted them. Who did I think that I was? Maybe the confidence was because I had stayed with the alpha of my pack for a while and he had made me feel like I was his equal when that was so far from the truth.

“You’re bold, Rue.” He locked eyes with me as he nodded slowly. He unfolded his arms from his check and placed them in his pocket. “But let me warn you, I am not Zach. Disrespect me and I will skin you before tearing your limbs. Got it?” His voice was soft yet so cold and nerve-wracking.
I swallowed hard and nodded. “I’m sorry, sir.”
“Don’t call me sir. You know my name.”
“Okay,” I replied under my breath as I looked away and stared at my fingers nervously.
