My mother called me on the phone, but I didn't answer. She insisted on calling me several times, but I ignored all her calls. Carla looked at me during dinner with a displeased expression.

"You should answer, Dean. If your mom is calling you, it must be for a reason. Maybe something happened to Jake. Don't ignore her. They might think I'm not letting you answer your calls, and they'll call me crazy again. I don't want your parents to think badly of me, Dean," she pleaded.

"You relax. It's not about you, Carla. It's because they're upset about what happened today with Jake, and they want to convince me to take Lena to see him. But I won't. I'm not interested. It's a decision made," I replied.

"Yes, but it's been more than twenty calls, Dean. Something is going on. You can't ignore the calls. At least turn off the phone, Dean. It's getting on my nerves."
