Chapter 27. Let Me Go

Carla looked at me. I noticed she was upset with my questioning. I didn't want to distrust her, but her behavior was suspicious. I didn't want to accuse her, but doubt had taken root in my mind. If she had done nothing wrong with Damon, she had no reason to be worried or cornered.
"What's this, Dean? An interrogation?" Carla asked.
"Carla, I'm just asking you a question. I'm not accusing you of anything. Don't get upset," I replied.
"It seems like you are accusing me, Dean," Carla retorted.
She evaded the question once again. I didn't want to distrust her, but her attitude didn't inspire confidence in me.
"Yes, Dean. I saw Damon the other day. But I did nothing wrong. He contacted me and asked me to negotiate with you. Damon wants to buy your pack and your lands. That's why he came the other day."
