Chapter 34. Are You Leaving?

I got up from my chair and walked towards the exit, leaving Jake alone at the bar. I wanted to be good to him and help him stabilize, but I got nothing in return. All he caused was trouble.

"Carla, don't pay attention to him."

"Why are you with Jake?" she demanded.

"Something happened. Lena is in the hospital. She had a health issue. They sedated her, and we're waiting for her to wake up. The doctors say she's okay, but she's asleep. We'll know how she feels later."

"If she's okay, why are you there, Dean? You took hours, and you couldn't send me a message. Do you know how worried I was about you? You could have called to let me know."

"I don't want to argue now, Carla."

"You should explain what your brother said."

"Don't listen to him. He's a liar. You know he hates me. He said that to make us fight."
